It began with homemade ice cream on a farm in Wisconsin...

Lionel Whipple was born in Appleton, Wisconsin in 1905, the son of a prosperous Farmer. His mother. Gertrude Whipple,  made ice cream as a treat for the family on special occasions and Lionel had always been particularly fond of it.  Growing up on a large farm, Lionel spent  his youth fixing equipment and found he had a knack for it.

With this knack for machinery and an initial investment of $3000 from his father, Lionel founded Acme Incorporated in 1929 as a manufacturer of frozen Ice Cream makers.  From these humble beginnings, Acme Inc has grown into a multi-national corporation with global operations in North America, Europe and recently in Asia.

Lionel passed the reigns to his son, Lionel Whipple II in 1977, who retired in 2003 and his son, Lionel Whipple III, assumed the role of CEO - the third generation of Whipple leadership at Acme.  From those humble beginnings in 1929, Acme has become a global manufacturer of Frozen Ice Cream and Custard dispensers:

  • Acme Manufacturing - Appleton, WI - Specializing in frozen ice cream dispensers and supporting automated production equipment

  • Acme S.p.A. - Perugia, Italy - Specializing in frozen custard and gelato makers

  • Acme Asia - Tianjin, China - Specializing in automated ice cream vending machines.
